Masculine Get Well

Masculine get well cards are hard to find.  I have two very special men in my life going through cancer treatment so I made 2 cards.  Now I have them ready to send when they need a little encouragement to get through the rough days.

Just because I made these for men doesn't mean they couldn't also be sent to a woman.

The ribbon treatment on this card is something that really makes it custom.  It's easy to do.  Check out my video to learn how I made this card and added the ribbon detail to my buttons.

Note- If you are reading this post in an email, you may need to go to my blog to view the video.

I hope and pray you do not need to send a get well card, but if you do then hopefully this will spark some ideas.

Heather North

First Christmas

I've got another card for the Dynamic Duos challenge.  I started making this one just after I made the first one, but ran out of time to finish it.  Thankfully, I think I have it done in time to enter their challenge.  (with a few minutes to spare)

Here is the challenge, in case you want to join in, or see what their next challenge will be.

I'm in love with this color combo for Starry Nights.  In fact, I would like to make another card with sponging to create a night sky.  Perhaps another day.  The only problem is that I haven't mastered taking pictures of these colors.  Trust me, this card looks so much better in person.

After I made the card front I decided to make it into a "stand-up" card, but I didn't have time to search the web for instructions, so I just "winged it".  The result?  It sits too low.  It still looks good, but I came up with a solution that is really pretty.

I took a large basic rhinestone and put it in the center of my card.  Now it can sit up a little straighter.  :)

When I first saw this stamp set in the SU catalog I wanted to try making it with silver embossing powder on Midnight Muse.   Next time I am going to try it with other SU blues to see which one I like best.  This card looks complicated, but it's not too difficult to put together.  I can see using this as my Christmas card this year.

One last look at the card when it is shut.  It lays fairly flat for mailing.  If you look close you will be able to tell that I need to re-ink my versamark pad.  It's running dry, and I have refill ordered, but I think it still looks ok thanks to the "cutouts" in the stamp itself.

Heather North

Retro Reindeer

This card was super easy to make thanks to SU products.  If you are looking for quick Christmas cards to make, this card might just be for you.

To make it even easier you can use the sketch I did from Retro Sketches.

Even the inside was quickly decorated.  Easy does not mean ugly though.   I think this card is super cute!

Some of the layers are popped up on dimensionals.

Did you have a nice Thanksgiving weekend?  I know we did.  Lots of resting, playing and watching movies.  I took a nap almost every day.  My body must have needed the rest.

Now that Thanksgiving is over I feel it's time to get started on Christmas.  Especially crafts and shopping.  We won't get our tree until December because we get a live tree and keep it up until New Years.  We don't want it to die too early and become a fire hazard.

To hopefully get you in the Christmas spirit, or at least to feel the chill in the air, here is my card for today.

Can you see all the sparkly goodness this card has to offer?

It looks so much prettier in person.  I shouldn't have waited so late to take a picture.

The colors are straight from this week's color challenge at Dynamic Duos.

Perfect colors for all your wintry cards. This card doesn't have to be a Christmas card. It can be sent any time in the winter to give a little wish to someone special.

Creative Blessings,
Heather North

P.S.  I'll come back later and add details on supplies.  Right now I have to head to work, and I wanted to be sure and get this posted!

Here it is:

Happy Thanksgiving!

I just want to wish all my American friends a Happy Thanksgiving.  Hope you had your fill of yummy food and your family around your table or at least on the phone.  I'm thankful for so many things in my life, here are just a few.

1) God and my faith
2) My husband and kids
3) My family and my friends
4) My home and my hobbies
5) YOU!

Scraps of Style

Here is another bright cheerful card I made for World Card Making Day.  The idea is so simple.  I was inspired by a JCPenney catalog that came in the mail.  The clothes were laid out in these crumpled "lines".  There towels and linens were too.  I thought it would make a great design for a card.

Here's the video I shot on how to make one yourself, this time with Christmas colors.  If you need a quick card to take to Thanksgiving dinner, this one is it!

There is lots of texture and dimension, yet the card lays pretty flat for mailing.  Especially when you don't add a button.  ;)

Daring Swing Card

This was going to be my masculine Monday card, but life got in the way yesterday.  It's the week of Thanksgiving here in the USA and I braved the storm and shoppers to get food for my family. We've had flood watches along with lots of wind and rain.  Thankfully our house is on a slightly higher elevation, so we are fine here, but being out in the weather yesterday was not fun!  I didn't sit down until after 7pm last night and never did get my blog post up.  Thank goodness y'all are ok with me missing a day here and there.

I've got more pictures for you if you scroll down, but this card is best seen on the video below.  This video was filmed a few weeks.  If you are viewing in your email you may need to go to my blog to watch this.

It's kind-of a good thing I waited because now I get to use this card to play along with the challenge over at Hand Stamped Sentiments.

I have another Fancy Fold card to show you later this week.  Actually I have a 3rd card I'm going to try to make.  Perhaps I should just make this fancy fold week... hmmm... except there are a couple more challenges I want to participate in and I'm not sure I can make them all work together.  We shall see.
Here is the card again, closed.

Scrapbook Sunday ~ Alignment

Are you ready for another Scrapbook Sunday?  Sorry about the glare on these photos.  I put page protectors on before I took the pictures.

What I love about these pages is how "clean" they are.  I left the background neutral and used a darker neutral shade of brown to mat the photos.  If you look at the LHS (left hand side) you will see that the bottom row is straight and the top row is a bit catty-wampus.  On the RHS (right hand side) I did just the opposite.  Somehow this creates balance on my pages.
On these next two pages you can see I aligned the LHS horizontally and the RHS vertically. I like to mix it up. Both sides have the same number of pictures. This was not done on purpose. I just noticed it while looking at this picture. ;)

Again I used the horizontal on one side and vertical on other side.  I must have been in a "mood" the day I made these pages.  They are all from the same trip to Tumwater Falls so I tried to make them cohesive.  That is also why both layouts use green paper for the background.  It helps to make "events" flow if you use similar colors for the entire group of photos.

My favorite part of this layout was how I highlighted the salmon trying to jump the waterfall.  I punched out the salmon using the 1 1/4" scallop circle punch then layered it on to a 1 3/8" white circle.  Next I adhered it back on to the photo.
